Cubs 5, Rockies 0 (8): Chris Volstad snapped a 24-start winless streak by scattering three hits over 6 2/3 solid innings as host Chicago claimed two of three from Colorado after winning a rain-shortened game.
Darwin Barney drove in a pair of runs and Starlin Castro scored three times for the Cubs, who broke the game open with a three-run eighth inning in the pouring rain. David DeJesus capped the scoring with an RBI single as Chicago recorded its 14th win in 18 outings against the Rockies at Wrigley Field.
The game was officially called more than a half hour after the teams completed the eighth inning.
Volstad (1-9) posted his first victory since July 17, 2011 - when he was a member of the then-Florida Marlins. The 25-year-old walked and struck out three before former Rockie Manuel Corpas finished off the seventh inning.
Shawn Camp worked around a two-out double in the eighth to preserve a two-run lead.
After plating Castro with a groundout in the second inning, Barney doubled the Cubs' advantage with an RBI bloop single that sailed just out of the reach of rookie second baseman D.J. LeMahieu in the sixth.
Jhoulys Chacin (1-4) failed in his bid to record his second win since returning from the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. After tossing six solid innings versus the New York Mets on Tuesday, Chacin permitted one run on five hits in as many frames on Sunday.
