Cubs 14, Pirates 4:
Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro homered during a nine-run fifth inning as host Chicago walloped Pittsburgh.

Rizzo hit a three-run homer to get the season-best outburst going and Castro ended it with a two-run blast as the Cubs won their third straight game.

Darwin Barney had three hits and four RBIs, including a go-ahead three-run homer in the fourth, to help Justin Germano (1-1) notch his first win since 2007.

Barney’s homer gave the Cubs a 4-2 advantage, and Rizzo expanded the lead to five with his three-run shot off Erik Bedard (5-12). Barney and Joe Mather had run-scoring singles and David DeJesus added a two-run base hit before Castro homered to straightaway center field off reliever Chris Resop to give Chicago a 13-2 cushion.

Germano allowed two runs and four hits in five innings in his second major-league start since 2008. He got the call due to a recent arm injury suffered by Matt Garza.

Castro had three RBIs, including a run-scoring double in the first.

Michael McKenry recorded two RBIs for Pittsburgh, which remained three games behind first-place Cincinnati in the National League Central. After the game, the Pirates acquired outfielder Travis Snider from the Toronto Blue Jays for right-hander Brad Lincoln.

Bedard allowed nine runs (eight earned) and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
