Recap

Pirates 3, Cubs 2: Garrett Jones snapped a tie with a double in the sixth inning and Kevin Correia stretched his career-high winning streak to six games as Pittsburgh avoided being swept at home for the first time this season.

Neil Walker and Michael McKenry homered for the Pirates, who maintained their lead in the National League wild card race.

Anthony Rizzo homered and drove in both runs for Chicago.

Ryan Dempster (5-5), in what was expected to be his final start with the Cubs, allowed three runs and five hits in six innings in losing his second straight outing after winning five straight. Multiple reports suggest he will be traded prior to Tuesday’s deadline.

Correia (8-6) allowed two runs, four hits and struck out four in six innings. He is 7-1 in his last 11 starts after losing five straight.

Joel Hanrahan worked a perfect ninth inning for his 29th save in 32 chances.

Rizzo’s solo shot in the first inning came on a 0-2 pitch and landed in the top row of the right-field bleachers before Walker tied it in the bottom half.

Rizzo put the Cubs back on top 2-1 when he delivered a two-out single on a 2-2 pitch in the third inning to score David DeJesus, who hit a ground-rule double with one out.

McKenry hit a 3-2 pitch off the left-field foul pole in the fifth inning to make it 2-2.

Alex Presley singled with one out in the sixth inning and Andrew McCutchen singled with two outs before Jones delivered a double down the right-field line to score Presley.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cubs LF Alfonso Soriano was given the day off. Soriano was 4-for-8 with a homer and four RBIs in the first two games of the series. … DeJesus’ double appeared to be a home run, but second base umpire Joe West ruled a fan reached over the center field wall and interfered with the ball. Replays were inconclusive. … Dempster didn’t work from the stretch until after he yielded Presley’s single. … The Pirates are a major league-best 33-16 at home.
