Recap

Reds 9, Cubs 4:
Drew Stubbs had three hits and three RBIs and Chris Heisey drove in a pair as visiting Cincinnati continued to work its offense into shape and won the 10,000th game in franchise history.

Chicago has dropped six in a row.

Devin Mesoraco added two hits and scored a pair of runs and Joey Votto recorded his eighth RBI for the Reds, who have scored 15 runs in the last two games after totaling 14 in the previous six contests.

Cincinnati wasted no time jumping all over Chris Volstad (0-2) and the Cubs' defense with four runs in the first inning. Stubbs started the rally with a single and moved all the way to third on an error before coming in on Votto’s single.

Jay Bruce singled and stole a base and Scott Rolen walked in front of Heisey, who plated two runs with a single to center. After another error, Rolen came in to score on a groundout.

Heisey’s error led to a pair of runs for Chicago in the third but the Reds got it right back in the following frame with Stubbs’ two-run double.

Homer Bailey (1-2) worked around the problems with his own defense and limited the damage to four runs - one earned - on five hits in seven innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Reds right-hander Aroldis Chapman struck out two in a perfect inning. He has 17 strikeouts in nine innings while allowing three hits, no runs and no walks. … The Cubs placed right-hander Kerry Wood (shoulder) on the disabled list Friday while right-hander Ryan Dempster underwent an MRI on his right quad. Dempster is questionable for his scheduled Sunday start. … Chicago joined the San Diego Padres as the only teams with 11 losses.
