Recap

Cardinals 5, Cubs 1:
Yadier Molina collected two hits, two RBIs and a run scored and Lance Lynn put up his second straight strong start as host St. Louis got its World Series rings and a victory.

Jon Jay hit his second homer and Dennis Descalso added an RBI triple for the Cardinals, who had their ring ceremony before rain delayed the start of the game.

Lynn (2-0) shook off the delay and lasted 5 1/3 innings, surrendering a run on four hits and two walks while striking out five. The 24-year-old right-hander has given up a total of two runs through his first two major-league starts.

St. Louis got Lynn all the support he would need with a four-run fourth inning. Molina plated the first two runs with a single to left and came in on Descalso’s triple. Tyler Greene capped the rally with an RBI single to bring in Descalso.

Chicago right-hander Chris Volstad (0-1) was charged with four runs - three earned - and six hits in six innings.

Jay added some insurance in the seventh, driving a 1-2 slider from Shawn Camp over the wall in right.

Five Cardinals relievers combined to allow two hits over the final 3 2/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
World Series hero David Freese was scratched from the Cardinals lineup due to an irritation on a finger of his right hand. He was replaced by Greene. … St. Louis 1B Lance Berkman (calf) missed his third straight game. … Starlin Castro drove in the Cubs’ lone run with a single in the sixth.
