Recap

Mariners 1, Twins 0: Eric Thames broke a scoreless deadlock with a solo home run to back a five-hit shutout from Felix Hernandez as visiting Seattle halted a three-game losing streak.

Hernandez (13-5) won his ninth consecutive decision and registered his fifth shutout of the season and third in the last five games. He struck out five and walked one.

Thames led off the eighth with a leadoff blast off hard-luck loser Liam Hendriks for his third home run in the last seven games to send the Twins to their 15th loss in 18 contests.

Hendriks (0-7) allowed only three hits and struck out six in his first career complete game but remained winless in 14 major-league starts over two seasons.

Minnesota had a great chance to get on the scoreboard in the seventh when Justin Morneau led off with a triple, but Hernandez induced three straight groundouts to escape the threat unscathed.

In his last three starts, including his perfect game against Tampa Bay on Aug. 15, Hernandez has allowed one run on 12 hits in 25 2/3 innings. He has not lost since June 12 against San Diego.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hernandez threw his ninth career shutout and 23rd complete game. ... Twins C Joe Mauer set a franchise record with his 832nd career start behind the plate. He eclipsed the record set by Earl Battey from 1961-67. ... The Mariners have hit a home run in 10 consecutive games.
