Recap

Athletics 5, Twins 1: Coco Crisp finished a triple shy of the cycle to back eight stellar innings from Tommy Milone as host Oakland won the rubber game of the series.

Milone (10-9) allowed one run on two hits and retired 14 of the last 15 batters he faced to end a three-game losing streak. The win was his first since beating Minnesota on July 14.

Crisp went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBIs to lift the Athletics to their fifth win in six games. Oakland moved ahead of Baltimore in the wild card chase after the Orioles dropped a 12-3 decision to Texas on Wednesday night.

Rookie Yoenis Cespedes put Oakland ahead for good with a two-run single in the third inning to send the reeling Twins to their 11th loss in 13 games.

Milone did not allow a hit after the second inning and the only runner to reach base after the fourth inning was a result of an error by right fielder Josh Reddick.

Twins right-hander Liam Hendriks (0-6) came up short again in his bid for his first major-league win. He allowed four runs on six hits in five innings to fall to 0-8 in 13 career starts.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland RHP Bartolo Colon was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for the performance-enhancing substance Testosterone. Colon, who was 4-1 with a 1.57 ERA in his last five outings, issued an apology in which he took responsibility "for my actions." Tyson Ross will be recalled from the minors to make Colon's start Thursday at Tampa Bay. ... Twins 1B Justin Morneau, who is riding an 11-game hitting streak, was not in the starting lineup. ... Cespedes extended his hitting streak to eight games. He has eight RBIs in six games against the Twins. ... Minnesota will conclude its 10-game road trip with four games at Texas starting Thursday.
