Recap

Mariners 5, Twins 2: Hector Noesi pitched seven solid innings and Jesus Montero drove in a pair of runs as Seattle shut down Minnesota for the second straight day.

Noesi (2-3) held the Twins to four hits and three walks, striking out five. Minnesota avoided being shut out for the fourth time in five games when Ryan Doumit hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Lucas Luetge pitched a scoreless eighth and Tom Wilhelmsen worked around a one-out solo homer in the ninth to close it out.

Montero, acquired with Noesi from the New York Yankees in the Michael Pineda deal last offseason, gave the Mariners all the offense they would need when he hit a two-run double in the first inning. He scored later in the frame on a base hit by Kyle Seager, and Mike Carp added a solo homer in the second to make it 4-0.

Brendan Ryan added a sacrifice fly in the fourth for Seattle, which outscored Minnesota by a 12-1 margin over the final two games of the series after losing the opener.

Nick Blackburn (0-4) took the loss, surrendering five runs on seven hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Doumit added a second homer in the ninth inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Doumit's ninth-inning blast was the first run scored in the series by Minnesota in a frame other than the seventh. ... The Twins have totaled five runs in their last five games, scoring in just three of their last 45 innings.
