Recap

Angels 5, Twins 1: C.J. Wilson, the Angels’ other big offseason acquisition, made a solid debut, allowing one run in seven innings as Los Angeles defeated host Minnesota.

Wilson’s signing didn’t receive as much attention as Albert Pujols’, but he has a chance to make just as big an impact, and he showed why Monday. The left-hander gave up three hits, walked four and struck out five against a Twins lineup that continues to struggle.

The Twins, who fell to 0-4, have scored just six runs and have been outscored by a combined 20-6 to start the season. They hit into three double plays and only six balls left the infield all afternoon.

Los Angeles got to Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn (0-1) in the first inning, scoring on Torii Hunter’s RBI single and an RBI ground-rule double by Bobby Abreu.

Blackburn settled in, retiring 16 of the next 17 batters, but then fell apart in the seventh. After Abreu drew a leadoff walk, Alberto Callaspo reached on an infield single. That set up Chris Iannetta’s two-run double, which gave the Angels a 4-1 lead.

Erick Aybar’s squeeze play scored Iannetta to stretch the Los Angeles advantage to four.

Josh Willingham had a fourth-inning home run for the Twins - one of only four winless teams left. The 0-4 start is Minnesota’s first since 1981, when it went 41-68 in a strike-shortened season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pujols went 0-for-4 and is hitting just .214 with an RBI through four games. … Liam Hendriks, who missed Sunday’s start against the Orioles after being hospitalized with food poisoning, was expected to return to Minnesota Monday. … Prior to Willingham’s home run, the Twins had scored all of their runs in the eighth or ninth innings.
