Royals 6, Rangers 3:
Jeremy Guthrie was strong again through seven innings and Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer to lead host Kansas City over Texas.

Johnny Giavotella added his first home run of the season and Salvador Perez doubled in a run for the Royals, who moved to 5-3 on their 10-game homestand.

Elvis Andus homered and Mitch Moreland doubled in a run for the Rangers, who remained four games up on Oakland in the American League West after the Athletics fell 6-1 to Los Angeles later Tuesday.

Guthrie (4-3) gave up single runs in the first and second innings but shut down the majors’ top offense from there, allowing just five hits - none after the third - while walking two and striking out five. The veteran right-hander has gone at least seven innings and surrendered two runs or less in five of his last six starts.

Kansas City rallied to tie it against Matt Harrison (15-9) in the third. Lorenzo Cain led off and reached on Ian Kinsler’s error before scoring on Alcides Escobar’s double to left. Escobar went to third on a groundout and scored on Billy Butler’s sacrifice fly.

Gordon gave the Royals the lead in the fifth, blasting a 2-1 fastball out to straightaway center, just over the 410-foot sign. Perez pushed Butler across with an RBI double later in the frame to chase Harrison.

Harrison was charged with five runs (three earned) and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings to suffer his second straight loss.

Greg Holland came on with runners on the corners in the ninth and recorded the final three outs for his 11th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gordon’s home run was just his third off a left-handed pitcher this season. … Harrison has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) and 20 hits in 10 total innings over his last two starts, boosting his ERA from 3.04 to 3.37. … Texas C Mike Napoli (quad) did some running before the game between home and first. He may work out again on Wednesday. … Kansas City OF Will Myers was named Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America and USA Today.
