Rangers 5, Royals 3:
Mitch Moreland hit a three-run homer and Matt Harrison snapped a two-start slide with his 13th win as visiting Texas picked up its third straight victory.

David Murphy and Nelson Cruz each drove in a run for the Rangers, who were coming off a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels that featured 76 total runs.

Harrison (13-6) made sure the destruction of Texas’ pitching staff would stop Friday as the left-hander held Kansas City to two runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. Harrison walked three and struck out three and is one win shy of matching his career high set last season.

The Rangers took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when Murphy singled off Jeremy Guthrie to chase home Adrian Beltre.

Guthrie allowed a leadoff single to Michael Young before being lifted due to injury. Jose Mijajares came on and recorded an out before walking Geovany Soto and serving up an 0-2 slider that Moreland planted over the wall in right-center for his 11th home run.

Guthrie (0-3) was charged with three runs and six hits while walking two and striking out four.

The Royals got single runs back in the seventh and eighth but could not close the gap as Tanner Scheppers and Mike Adams bridged the gap to the ninth. Regular closer Joe Nathan was unavailable after throwing more than 60 pitches the previous two days, so Alexi Ogando got the opportunity and earned his second save.

Guthrie has posted a 7.72 ERA in three starts since being acquired from the Colorado Rockies. … Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (knee) was held out of the lineup but is expected to be back Saturday. … Kansas City C Salvador Perez recorded three hits, lifting his batting average to .336. … Texas OF Josh Hamilton went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. He has struck out five times in the last three games and has 101 on the season.
