Recap
Angels 6, Royals 3: Kendrys Morales delivered a three-run, pinch-hit single in the eighth inning to lift host Los Angeles over Kansas City.
Maicer Izturis had two hits, including a double in the winning rally, and Mike Trout added two hits and scored a run to help the Angels remain five games behind division leader Texas in the American League West.
Kevin Jepsen (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his first victory in nearly 14 months. Scott Downs threw a perfect ninth for his ninth save.
Greg Holland (4-3) retired the first two batters in the eighth before Albert Callaspo singled, Izturis doubled and Peter Bourjos walked to load the bases and set the stage for Morales' booming single off the wall in right field.
Angels lefty C.J. Wilson allowed three runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings, while Kansas City's Bruce Chen was charged with three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Kansas City grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Alex Gordon's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Lorenzo Cain, but the Angels responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Trout singled to run his hitting streak to 12 games and eventually scored on Albert Pujols' groundout. It was the 15th straight game in which Trout scored, extending his AL rookie record. Howie Kendrick's RBI double tied it.
Izturis put the Angels ahead with an RBI single in the sixth, but the Royals drew even on Brayan Pena's run-scoring single in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Trout's run-scoring streak is the longest in baseball since 2008, when Matt Holliday scored in 15 straight games for Colorado. He is within three of tying the all-time American League mark. ... Gordon had his 10th multi-hit game in July. Since the All-Star break, he is batting .420 (21-for-50) with nine RBIs. ... Angels SS Erick Aybar had X-rays on his injured big toe that were inconclusive. He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. ... Cain has driven in at least one run in seven of 11 games since the All-Star break. ... Jepsen's last win came against the Royals on May 30, 2011.
