Royals 1, Twins 0:
Bruce Chen pitched seven shutout innings and Brayan Pena’s RBI single in the second stood up for host Kansas City.

Chen (5-5) allowed four hits and struck out five as the Royals improved their major league-worst home record to 8-19. Chen didn't allow a runner to reach third base.

Greg Holland struck out the side in the eighth inning and Jonathan Broxton worked around a one-out double by Josh Willingham and a walk to Justin Morneau to earn his 14th save in 16 chances.

Minnesota’s Francisco Liriano (1-6) allowed one run, four hits and struck out eight in six innings in his second consecutive quality start.

Brian Dozier had two hits for the Twins, who lost for only the second time in eight games.

Pena knocked in Eric Hosmer with a two-run single to left after Hosmer stole second on the previous pitch.
