Tigers 5, Angels 2:
Prince Fielder and Delmon Young hit back-to-back homers and Max Scherzer won his fourth straight game as host Detroit beat Los Angeles for the second consecutive day.

Fielder smashed a two-run tiebreaking homer off Ervin Santana (7-11) in the sixth and Young swatted the ensuing pitch into the left-center field bleachers as the Tigers won for the fifth time in six games.

Scherzer (14-6) struck out nine in seven innings to increase this season total to 195 and regain the major-league strikeouts lead over teammate Justin Verlander. He gave up one run, four hits and two walks while winning for the 13th time in 16 decisions.

The Angels were without Albert Pujols (calf) for the fourth straight game. Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera (ankle) also was held out.

Los Angeles scored in the first when rookie Mike Trout and Maicer Iztruis led off the game with singles and Trout scored on Torii Hunter’s double-play grounder.

Detroit tied the score in the third when Omar Infante drew a two-out walk and scored on Andy Dirks’ triple off the right-center field fence.

Quintin Berry added an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a four-run lead and Jose Valverde allowed a run-scoring single in the ninth to Kendrys Morales while pitching in a non-save situation.

Santana allowed four runs and five hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked three.
