Recap

Tigers 8, Royals 7:
Prince Fielder and Delmon Young smashed homers and Austin Jackson and Gerald Laird had three hits apiece as host Detroit won its fourth straight game.

Young has homered in three straight games for the first time in his career and his two-run blast in the seventh gave the Tigers an 8-4 advantage as Detroit improved to 6-1 against Kansas City this season.

Doug Fister (2-6) allowed four runs and eight hits in six-plus innings to win for only the second time in 11 starts this season, helping the Tigers move a game above .500 for the first time since May 10 while notching their first four-game winning streak since mid-April.

The Royals tallied three runs in the ninth on Billy Butler’s two-run single and a sacrifice fly by Mike Moustakas. Jose Valverde eventually worked out of the non-save situation jam by striking out Jeff Francoeur with the tying run on second.

Kansas City bunched together four hits in the first against Fister with Butler and Moustakas driving in the runs.

Fielder hit a two-run shot in the first off Bruce Chen (7-8) and the Tigers went ahead to stay on a second-inning double by Laird. Jackson’s run-scoring single capped a three-run frame and gave Detroit a 5-2 lead.

Miguel Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give Detroit a four-run lead.

Moustakas homered in the fifth and Yuniesky Betancourt hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to pull Kansas City within 6-4.

Chen allowed six runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson is batting .417 (25-for-60) during a career-long 14-game hitting streak. … Kansas City is 3-7 on an 11-game road trip that concludes Sunday. … Tigers second baseman Ramon Santiago went 2-for-3 for his third multi-hit game in his last five outings. … Royals catcher Salvador Perez was hitless in four at-bats to end an 11-game hitting streak.
