Recap

Tigers 3, Pirates 2:
Delmon Young’s eighth-inning RBI single broke a 2-2 tie as visiting Detroit salvaged the series finale.

Young’s hit off Chris Resop (0-3) scored rookie Quintin Berry, who had walked and stolen second. Berry also hit his first major-league homer to put Detroit ahead 2-0 in the first, but Garrett Jones tied it with his ninth homer, a two-run shot in the seventh.

Justin Verlander (8-4) went the distance, allowing five hits while fanning seven, to improve to 19-2 in interleague play. Detroit still hasn’t been swept in interleague play since 2004.

Austin Jackson singled leading off the game, and Berry followed by drilling a fastball down the middle over the right-field fence. Pirates starter Kevin Correia settled down after that, allowing six hits in six innings.

The Pirates lost for just the third time in 15 home games. Center fielder Andrew McCutchen’s seven-game hitting streak ended in an 0-for-4 day.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera, who entered in a 1-for-17 slump, went 1-for-4. He struck out in the eighth with a runner on. … Verlander tossed a one-hitter against Pittsburgh on May 18. ... Pirates manager Clint Hurdle was ejected in the fourth for arguing balls and strikes.
