Recap

Tigers 4, Rockies 1: Miguel Cabrera homered over the right-field wall and later circled the bases on a ball that traveled about 75 feet as host Detroit beat Colorado.

Doug Fister (1-3) pitched six innings of shutout ball in his first start since May 28 due to a side injury. Fister allowed three hits, struck out six and walked one while sending the Rockies to their ninth loss in 10 games.

Cabrera hit his 14th homer in the first inning and then touched all four bases on a play featuring two Colorado errors in the fifth to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Cabrera hit a one-hopper that glanced off the glove of Rockies pitcher Christian Friedrich and caromed to his right. Friedrich recovered the ball but threw it wildly past first base.

Colorado catcher Wilin Rosario raced down the right-field line to retrieve the ball and Cabrera headed toward third base. Rosario’s throw skipped past Friedrich at third – Rockies third baseman Jordan Pacheco was covering home – and Cabrera continued on to score.

Detroit also scored runs when Austin Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and Prince Fielder hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Phil Coke worked two shutout innings and Joaquin Benoit pitched the ninth, allowing a run on Michael Cuddyer’s infield out.

Friedrich (4-3) allowed three runs (two earned) and three hits in five innings. He walked five and struck out four.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson walked four times for the second time in his career and has reached base seven times on six walks and one hit in the series. … Colorado’s Carlos Gonzalez had three hits for the second straight game and is 14-for-32 during a seven-game hitting streak. … Fister was removed after 82 pitches; 54 were strikes. … Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler was hitless in four at-bats and is just 4-for-31 over his last nine games.
