Recap

Twins 4, Tigers 3: Justin Morneau homered and drove in three runs and P.J. Walters turned in 6 1/3 solid innings as visiting Minnesota earned a two-game sweep of Detroit.

Trevor Plouffe added a solo blast and Drew Butera had three hits for the Twins, who still rank last in the majors with 12 wins.

The Tigers (18-20) dropped two games below .500.

Detroit starter Doug Fister had allowed only one run in his first three starts but struggled on Thursday. The right-hander worked around a pair of hits in each of the first two innings but could not get out of the third unscathed.

Fister (0-2) issued a two-out walk in front of Morneau, who drove the first pitch to the opposite field in left-center for his fifth homer. Plouffe followed and made it 3-0 with a solo homer - his third of the season.

Fister was charged with four runs - three earned - on nine hits while striking out five and walking a pair in six innings.

The Twins added another run on Morneau’s RBI groundout in the fifth and Walters (1-1) held off the Tigers, limiting them to four hits. Walters walked three and struck out two while allowing three earned runs - all on solo homers.

Matt Capps worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save.
