Recap
Tigers 9, Royals 3: Austin Jackson had four hits and drove in a pair of runs as host Detroit built a 9-0 lead and coasted past Kansas City.
Rick Porcello (2-2) took advantage of the offensive outburst by tossing a season-high eight innings to snap a two-game losing streak. He allowed three runs on seven hits.
Jhonny Peralta had a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Tigers, who beat the Royals for the fourth time in as many meetings this season.
Detroit took the suspense out of the game in its first at-bat, parlaying six hits and a pair of errors into a 5-0 lead.
Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double and Andy Dirks and Peralta added run-scoring singles in the inning to send the Tigers on their way to just their third win in 11 games.
Don Kelly doubled in a run and Jackson added a two-run double in the third before Peralta drove home his second run in the fourth as Detroit built a hefty 9-0 cushion.
Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar (2-2) lasted only four innings and was hammered for nine runs on 12 hits to drop to 4-5 lifetime against the Tigers.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The win moved Detroit back to .500 (7-7) at Comerica Park. ... Tigers DH Dirks left the game after a double in the fourth with tightness in his hamstring. He is listed as day-to-day. Brad Eldred replaced him. ... Cabrera improved to 16-for-32 with two homers and 10 RBIs lifetime against Hochevar. ... Royals LF Alex Gordon extended his hitting streak to five games with a sixth-inning RBI double. He has two homers, three doubles and six RBIs in that span.
