Recap
Indians 15, Royals 3: Asdrubal Cabrera belted a grand slam and Shin-Soo Choo recorded a double and a two-run single in a 10-run fifth inning as Cleveland cruised past visiting Kansas City.
Choo led off the big frame with his double and scored on a Jason Kipnis ground-rule double. Cabrera, Lou Marson and Jack Hannahan, who also had an RBI double in the fifth, notched three hits apiece for Cleveland.
Indians starter Zach McAllister (6-8) allowed three runs and five hits over 6 2/3 innings, snapping a four-game losing streak to gain his first win since Aug. 11. Alex Gordon broke up McAllister’s shutout with a two-run homer in the sixth.
The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the second on Marson’s two-out RBI single. Choo, Kipnis and Casey Kotchman each added two hits for Cleveland, which equaled its season high for runs in a game set at Kansas City on Sept. 23.
Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar (8-16) struck out six and allowed one run through four innings before facing 10 batters in the fifth and retiring two. It was Hochevar’s career-high 32nd start of the year.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The 10 runs were the most the Indians have scored in an inning at home since putting up 11 against the Royals on Aug. 13, 2006. … Jarrod Dyson stole his 30th base of the season in the third, giving the Royals two players with at least 30 for the first time since Willie Wilson and Lonnie Smith did it in 1985. Alcides Escobar has 32. … Choo is now 17-for-30 against Hochevar in his career.
