Recap

Rangers 5, Indians 3: Adrian Beltre had four hits, scored twice and drove in a run to power Texas over host Cleveland, which tied a 98-year-old franchise record for most losses in a month.

Michael Young delivered a pair of RBI singles to back six strong innings from Ryan Dempster as the Rangers won for the 10th time in 13 games to maintain a four-game lead over Oakland atop the American League West.

Dempster (4-1) won his third consecutive start, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven to send the Indians to their sixth straight defeat.

Ian Kinsler and David Murphy each had two hits and an RBI for Texas, which moved 25 games over .500 with an AL-best 78-53 mark.

Closer Joe Nathan came on to get the final two outs for his 28th save after Koji Uehara surrendered a two-run homer to Casey Kotchman in the ninth inning. It was Nathan's 26th consecutive save, setting a franchise record.

Carlos Santana had two hits and an RBI for Cleveland, which has lost 15 of 16 and finished August with a 5-24 mark, matching the franchise record for most losses in a month set in 1914.

Ubaldo Jimenez (9-14) lost his third straight decision, giving up four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three.

Beltre's first hit plated Kinsler in the first inning and Young and Murphy added RBI singles in the third inning for a 3-0 lead.
