Royals 7, Indians 6 (11): Alcides Escobar singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as host Kansas City completed its first sweep of Cleveland in more than six years.

With Eric Hosmer on third base, Escobar bounced a 1-2 pitch from Indians closer Chris Perez into left field to send the Indians to their sixth consecutive loss.

The Royals squandered a 6-0 first-inning lead, then had two runners in scoring position in the 10th before coming up short. But Escobar emerged the hero to make a winner out of Aaron Crow (2-1), who threw a perfect 11th inning.

Esmil Rogers (1-1) took the loss after allowing Hosmer's leadoff single in the 11th. Hosmer advanced on a Chris Getz sacrifice and moved to third on a wild pitch by Rogers.

Corey Kluber made his first major-league start for the Indians, and it looked like it might be a short one after the Royals batted around in the first. Alex Gordon took Kluber's first major-league pitch over the wall in right field, and Hosmer added a mammoth three-run shot over the center-field wall to highlight the onslaught.

Cleveland chipped away at the deficit over the next two innings, closing to within a pair of runs on sacrifice flies from Vinny Rottino and Michael Brantley sandwiched around a Carlos Santana two-run single. Santana capped the rally in the fifth with a one-out, two-run shot that landed in the camera bay in left-center.

Royals starter Bruce Chen was long gone by then, tagged for four runs on seven hits over just 2 2/3 innings of work. Kluber lasted 4 1/3 frames, allowing six runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cleveland's rotation has been battered on the road trip, going 0-5 with an 11.93 ERA through the first six games of the trek. The starters are averaging fewer than five innings per outing over that span. ... Hosmer's first-inning homer was his first since June 25 ... The Indians conclude their difficult road swing with a three-game series in Detroit, while the Royals host the American League West-leading Texas Rangers for a weekend set.
