Recap
Indians 4, Royals 3: Jack Hannahan's two-run double capped a three-run fifth inning and host Cleveland sent reeling Kansas City to its 12th consecutive defeat.
Derek Lowe (3-1) tossed six solid innings, allowing one run on eight hits in beating the Royals for the second time in 12 days.
Asdrubal Cabrera collected two hits in his return from a six-game bereavement list absence to extend his hitting streak to five games for Cleveland, which improved to 8-2 in the last 10.
Royals starter Jonathan Sanchez (1-1) couldn't find the strike zone, allowing four hits and four runs and tying a career high with seven walks in 4 2/3 innings. He threw 56 of 115 pitches for strikes.
Mitch Maier had a pair of hits and drove in all three runs for the Royals, who matched their longest skid since dropping 12 straight from May 19-30, 2008.
With the scored tied at 1-1, wildness got Sanchez in trouble in the fourth. He walked the bases loaded before Shelly Duncan broke a 1-1 tie with a sacrifice fly and Hannahan doubled home two runs to end the left-hander's night.
Maier got the Royals within 4-2 with a two-out double in the eighth off Vinnie Pestano and Chris Perez coughed up a run in the ninth before securing his seventh save.
