Recap
Royals 4, White Sox 3: Eric Hosmer singled home Jarrod Dyson with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give Kansas City a walk-off victory.
Billy Butler led off the ninth with a single against Jesse Crain (2-3) and Dyson entered as a pinch runner. Dyson stole second with two out and Jeff Francoeur was intentionally walked before Eric Hosmer slapped an 0-2 pitch from Matt Thornton just inside the third-base line as Dyson scored easily from second.
Greg Holland (7-4) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for the Royals, who went 12-6 this season against the White Sox. Chicago maintained a two-game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.
Chicago jumped out to a 3-0 lead. A.J. Pierzynski had a run-scoring single in the first and the White Sox tallied second-inning runs on a throwing error by Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie and an infield out by Dewayne Wise.
Kansas City pulled within 3-2 on a two-run triple in the fifth by Johnny Giavotella. Butler racked a run-scoring double in the sixth to tie the contest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago 1B/DH Paul Konerko was held out due to back soreness but expects to play Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. … Butler is one away from the first 100-RBI season of his career. … Guthrie allowed three runs (one earned) and eight hits in six innings, while Chicago’s Francisco Liriano allowed three runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
