Recap

White Sox 3, Royals 2: Alex Rios homered to break a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning - Chicago's third solo shot of the game - and the host White Sox maintained their three-game lead over Detroit in the American League Central with their fifth straight victory.

Alejandro De Aza and Gordon Beckham also homered for Chicago, which defeated Kansas City for only the second time in the last nine meetings and improved to 6-10 against the Royals this season.

Gavin Floyd (10-10) won in his second start since returning from an elbow strain. He allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. Matt Thornton retired all four batters he faced before Addison Reed got the final two outs for his 28th save in 32 chances.

Billy Butler had a two-run single in the first inning to reach a career high with 97 RBIs and Alex Gordon hit his major league-leading 48th double for the Royals, who fell to 16-7 on Tuesdays. Luke Hochevar (8-14) has lost five of his last six decisions. He yielded three runs and seven hits in seven innings.

De Aza, who didn't play Monday after going 0-for-9 in his previous two games, responded with a homer into the White Sox's bullpen in right field to lead off the game. Beckham tied it 2-2 with a towering shot to left before Rios delivered a long home run just inside the left-field foul pole.
