Recap

White Sox 6, Tigers 1: Alex Rios swatted a three-run homer and A.J. Pierzynski added a solo shot in a four-run sixth inning as host Chicago opened a three-game lead over Detroit atop the American League Central.

Rookie Jose Quintana (6-4) limited the Tigers to one run and struck out seven in 7 2/3 innings to end the White Sox's string of seven straight losses to Detroit.

Quintana, who had been shelled in his previous two starts, scattered seven hits and allowed his only run on Jhonny Peralta's RBI single in the second inning.

Gordon Beckham tacked on some big insurance runs with a two-run blast off Octavio Dotel in the eighth inning as Chicago handed Detroit its sixth loss in seven games. The Tigers fell five games behind idle Baltimore for the second AL wild card spot.

Donnie Veal retired Prince Fielder for the final out in the eighth before Addison Reed got the final three outs to give the White Sox their fifth win in 15 meetings with the Tigers this season.

Detroit right-hander Rick Porcello (9-12) lost his sixth consecutive start, giving up four runs - three earned - on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Chicago broke through in the sixth when Dewayne Wise reached on a one-out error and Paul Konerko singled. Rios then belted a laser into the left-field seats for a 3-1 lead and Pierzynski followed by hammering a shot to straightaway center that ended Porcello's night.
