White Sox 6, Twins 2: Alex Rios hit two homers, including a grand slam, and drove in a career-high six runs to power host Chicago in the rubber match of the three-game series.

Jake Peavy (10-10) won for over the first time in a month to help the White Sox maintain their one-game lead over Detroit atop the American League Central. The Tigers routed Cleveland 7-1 later Wednesday.

Peavy, who had been 0-3 in his last five outings, allowed one run on five hits in six innings to earn his first victory since Aug. 1 as Chicago rebounded from Tuesday's 18-9 shellacking to improve to 9-1 in its last 10 home games.

Peavy got all the run support he needed in the first inning when Rios crushed his second career slam off Twins starter P.J. Walters for a 4-0 lead.

Walters (2-3), who was making his first appearance since June 13, was tagged for six runs on five hits in five-plus innings. He exited after serving up Rios' two-run blast in the sixth.

Eduardo Escobar and Matt Carson delivered sacrifice flies for Minnesota and Chris Parmelee had a pair of hits to run his hitting streak to eight games since he was recalled from the minors.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rios has 22 homers and 82 RBIs and is closing in on his career highs of 24 homers and 88 RBIs. It was his third multi-homer game of the season. ... Twins LF Josh Willingham was not in the lineup Wednesday due to a sore hamstring but pinch hit in the ninth. Willingham, who leads the team in homers (33) and RBIs (98), is expected back for Friday's game against Cleveland. ... White Sox manager Robin Ventura said the team does not plan to give left-hander Chris Sale extended rest. He added that lefty Hector Santiago is the likely starter for Sunday's game against Kansas City. ... Escobar has four RBIs in his first two games with the Twins, one more than he had in 36 games with Chicago this season. ... Following a day off Thursday, the Twins will host Cleveland for the start of a 10-game homestand. The White Sox will also have Thursday off before opening a seven-game homestand that will feature four games next week against Detroit.
