Recap
White Sox 4, Angels 2: A.J. Pierzynski belted a go-ahead, pinch-hit two-run homer as host Chicago won for the fourth time in five games.
Pierzynski has homered in five consecutive games and his seventh-inning blast off Jason Isringhausen (3-2) barely cleared the wall in right-center field to erase a 2-1 deficit as the White Sox maintained a 1 1/2-game lead in the American League Central over the Detroit Tigers.
Alexei Ramirez added a run-scoring triple in the eighth on a drive into the gap in which Angels right fielder Torii Hunter nearly made a spectacular reaching grab.
Addison Reed struck out two in the ninth for his 19th save in 22 opportunities.
The Angels took a 2-1 lead the lead in the top of the seventh when Peter Bourjos walked against Nate Jones (5-0) and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bobby Wilson. After Mike Trout struck out, Hunter smacked a single to left field to score Bourjos.
Los Angeles manufactured a run in the fifth after Maicer Izturis started the inning with a single off the right leg of White Sox starter Francisco Liriano. Izturis moved to second on a bunt single by Bourjos, and to third on a sacrifice bunt by Wilson before Trout drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.
Liriano left the contest after the inning with a quad contusion. He gave up one run and four hits before exiting.
Chicago tied the score in the sixth on a line-drive homer to left by Kevin Youkilis, his third long ball in two games.
Angels starter Dan Haren allowed one run and four hits in six innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pierzynski has driven in 11 runs during his five-game homer streak. He has a career-high 21 homers, three better than his 2005 total. … Los Angeles 1B Albert Pujols failed to drive in a run after compiling 13 RBIs over the previous six games. … Chicago’s Paul Konerko had three hits after going 1-for-24 over his previous six games. … The Angels expect to activate SS Erick Aybar (toe) off the disabled list prior to Monday’s game against the Oakland Athletics.
