Recap

Twins 7, White Sox 6:
Jamey Carroll’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Minnesota past American League Central leader Chicago for its fourth straight victory.

Danny Valencia led off the ninth with a base hit against Brett Myers (0-1), and a throwing error by catcher A.J. Pierzynski on Brian Dozier’s bunt put runners on second and third with nobody out. Carroll followed with a soft liner to right field that was just deep enough to plate pinch runner Alexi Casilla with the decisive run.

Glen Perkins (2-1) got the win after keeping the White Sox off the board in the top of the ninth inning.

The Twins seized a 6-4 lead in the third inning on an RBI base hit by Ryan Doumit and a sacrifice fly by Valencia, but Alejandro De Aza cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the fourth. He then tied the score with another RBI base hit with two outs in the eighth.

Each team scored four runs in the first inning. Chicago took an early lead when Paul Konerko singled in a run and scored on a three-run homer by Pierzynski. The Twins answered in the bottom of the frame, getting RBI singles from Joe Mauer, Josh Willingham and Valencia.

Chicago starter Jose Quintana gave up four earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings. Minnesota’s Cole De Vries gave up five runs, four of them earned, on seven hits in five innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.

Doumit had an RBI fielder’s choice in the first inning for Minnesota.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The White Sox committed three errors. ... De Aza had four of Chicago’s 10 hits. ... Including his work in the National League with Houston, Myers is now 0-5 on the season. ... Francisco Liriano, who was traded from the Twins to Chicago over the weekend, is scheduled to start against his former team for the first time on Tuesday.
