Recap
Tigers 10, White Sox 8: Miguel Cabrera, Ryan Raburn and Austin Jackson homered in an eight-run sixth inning as visiting Detroit stormed back from a six-run deficit to earn a series split.
Prince Fielder added three hits and a run scored for the Tigers, who moved back to .500 (18-18).
The White Sox had little trouble scoring off Max Scherzer in the early going, pushing across two runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings to knock the right-hander out of the game. A.J. Pierzynski had three RBIs in that onslaught and Paul Konerko added a solo homer.
Jake Peavy entered the day with the best ERA in the American League at 1.89 and got through the first five innings clean before falling apart in the sixth.
Andy Dirks started it with a single and Cabrera followed by taking an 0-1 sinker out to left for his eighth homer. Fielder doubled and Brennan Boesch was hit by a pitch in front of Raburn, who cut it to 6-5 by ripping a breaking ball into the stands in left-center.
Peavy was lifted after issuing a walk and Will Ohman (0-2) hit Delmon Young before serving up Jackson’s homer, a three-run shot that put Detroit on top.
The Tigers tacked on two more in the seventh on RBI singles by Raburn and Jhonny Peralta.
The White Sox made it interesting in the ninth by pushing two runs across, but Octavio Dotel got Dayan Viciedo to fly out to the warning track with the tying run on second to end the game. Dotel relieved closer Jose Valverde, who left with lower back tightness.
Collin Balester (2-0) got the win in relief.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Fielder went 6-for-9 in the series after entering in an 0-for-22 slump. … Pierzynski finished 5-for-5 with three RBIs. That marked his first multi-hit game since April 25 and first five-hit contest since July 29, 2006. … The White Sox activated right-hander Jesse Crain from the disabled list and designated left-hander Eric Stults for assignment.
