Recap

White Sox 4, Mariners 0:
Philip Humber pitched the 21st perfect game in major league history to lift visiting Chicago.

Humber (1-0) needed only 96 pitches to cut through 27 Mariners. He had back-to-back six-pitch innings in the fifth and sixth, and he did not have a three-ball count until Michael Saunders got up 3-0 leading off the ninth.

Humber came back to record the strikeout and ended the game with his ninth against pinch hitter Brendan Ryan. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski dropped the final strike but recovered in time to throw to first and record the last out.

The perfect game was the third in White Sox history and the first in the majors since Philadelphia’s Roy Halladay blanked Florida on May 29, 2010. It was also the 18th no-hitter in franchise history.

Paul Konerko put the White Sox on top in the second with a solo home run to right field against Blake Beavan (1-2). An inning later, Konerko and Pierzynski added back-to-back RBI singles to make it 3-0, and Alejandro De Aza drove in the final White Sox run with a ninth-inning single.

Beavan gave up three runs on seven hits in his six innings, walking one and striking out one.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The last White Sox perfect game was thrown by Mark Buehrle against Tampa Bay on July 23, 2009. ... Charlie Robertson threw the franchise’s first on April 30, 1922 against Detroit. ... Chicago has won five in a row against Seattle and taken nine of the last 10 meetings. ... The 96 pitches were the fewest in a perfect game since David Cone threw 88 against Montreal in 1999.
