Recap

Nationals 5, Astros 4 (11): Roger Bernadina scored with the help of a pair of errors in the top of the 11th as visiting Washington battled back to pick up its third straight win.

Michael Morse extended his hitting streak to 15 games, Ryan Zimmerman singled in a pair and Adam LaRoche drove in a run to give him 11 RBIs in the last seven games for Washington, which held onto its three-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the National League East.

Craig Stammen (5-1) pitched the final two innings to earn the win in relief.

After squandering the lead in the ninth, the Nationals put pressure on Houston right-hander Wilton Lopez (3-1) in the 11th. Bernadina led off with a single and Kurt Suzuki dropped a sacrifice bunt attempt down the first base line.

First baseman Steve Pearce collided with Lopez trying to make the initial play and then threw the ball wide of first as Bernadina circled the bases. Right fielder Brian Bogusevic’s throw sailed high over catcher Chris Snyder, allowing Bernadina to slide across easily with the go-ahead run.

The Astros pushed across the tying run in the ninth as Nationals closer Tyler Clippard struggled with his command. Clippard hit Carlos Corporan with one out and walked Bogusevic in front of Jose Altuve, who sent a double down the line in left to force extra innings.

Washington tied it at 1-1 in the fourth on LaRoche’s RBI single and took the lead in the fifth. The Nationals loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk against rookie Dallas Keuchel before Zimmerman chopped a single over third base to drive in two for the lead.

Morse then lined an RBI single to center to make it a 4-1 edge.

Brett Wallace and Pearce each drove in a run for Houston in the sixth to cut it to 4-3.
