Phillies 5, Pirates 4: Carlos Ruiz collected three hits - including a solo homer in the eighth inning - and Ty Wigginton belted a two-run blast as host Philadelphia bested its Keystone State rival for the second straight game.

Placido Polanco added an RBI single for the Phillies, who are expected to promote five-time All-Star second baseman Chase Utley from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to Wednesday's contest. Utley, who is recovering from chronically injured knees, belted a homer in his third at-bat for the IronPigs on Tuesday.

Philadelphia won for the first time in five outings for Vance Worley (4-4), who allowed three runs on six hits in as many innings. After Drew Sutton ripped a pinch-hit double to bring Pittsburgh to within 4-3 in the seventh, Neil Walker flied out and left fielder John Mayberry Jr. threw out Michael McKenry at home to end the threat.

Antonio Bastardo, who yielded Carlos Pena's three-run homer in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay, overcame Andrew McCutchen's leadoff double to retire the next three batters. Jonathan Papelbon worked around McKenry's solo homer in the ninth for his 18th save.

With Philadelphia nursing a 2-1 advantage in the third inning, Wigginton deposited an offering from Erik Bedard (4-8) into the seats in left field. The blast was the eighth of the season and first since June 14 for Wigginton, who played 115 games with the Pirates from 2004-05.

Casey McGehee had an RBI single for the Pirates, who have dropped three in a row after winning six of their previous seven. Pittsburgh has struggled mightily at Citizens Bank Park, posting a 5-20 mark while losing 11 of its last 12.

Bedard fell to 0-4 in his last four road starts after yielding four runs on eight hits in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Slugger Ryan Howard is expected to be in Philadelphia for "functional testing" on his Achilles tendon on Wednesday, the team announced. Should he pass those tests, Howard will begin his rehabilitation assignment with Class-A Lakewood on Thursday. ... Bedard suffered his second loss to the Phillies this season. He yielded just one run over seven innings in a 1-0 loss on April 5. ... Phillies backup catcher Brian Schneider is nursing a high ankle sprain, suffered against Tampa Bay on Sunday. ... Sutton was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Sunday.
