Nationals 7, Phillies 1:
Gio Gonzalez pitched seven strong innings and Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer as Washington pulled away for its fourth straight victory.

Werth gave the Nationals a 3-1 lead when he took Vance Worley (2-2) deep to left field with two outs in the fifth inning. Rick Ankiel drove in another run later in the frame with a double, but Worley escaped further damage when right fielder Hunter Pence threw out Danny Espinosa at home to end the inning.

Ian Desmond added a solo homer in the sixth to give Washington a four-run cushion, and Chad Tracy added an exclamation point with a two-run blast in the seventh inning.

Gonzalez (3-1) struck out seven while yielding just one run on four hits and a walk. He threw 107 pitches.

Worley allowed five runs on 11 hits in six innings, walking two while striking out four.

Carlos Ruiz drove in the Phillies’ lone run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
