Recap
Phillies 8, Diamondbacks 5: Laynce Nix went 3-for-3 with a home run and Pete Orr tripled in three runs as visiting Philadelphia matched a season-high with eight runs and snapped a three-game slide.
Hunter Pence broke out of an 0-for-16 drought with a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Shane Victorino added a solo shot for the Phillies, who had not scored more than five runs in any of the previous eight games.
Vance Worley (2-1) started for Philadelphia and threw six strong innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six and walking one.
The Phillies got to Josh Collmenter (0-2) in the fourth for four runs. Pence took the first pitch of the at-bat the opposite way over the right field wall to open the scoring. Nix followed three batters later with a towering two-run blast down the right field line.
Orr’s bases-loaded triple in the seventh made it 7-1 and closed the book on Collmenter, who was charged with six runs on nine hits in six-plus innings.
The Diamondbacks made it interesting against the Philadelphia bullpen, putting together a three-run seventh and pulling to within 8-5 on Jason Kubel’s solo homer in the eighth.
But Jonathan Papelbon worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies leadoff hitter Juan Pierre went 2-for-4, giving him five multi-hit games in the last 10. … Arizona recalled right-hander Joe Martinez and left-hander Mike Zagurski prior to the game. In corresponding moves, the Diamondbacks optioned Joe Paterson to the minors and designated Jonathan Albaladejo for assignment. … Pence had an MRI on his left shoulder come back clean on Tuesday.
