Recap

Diamondbacks 6, Mets 3:
Arizona overcame three solo home runs by Ike Davis and Ian Kennedy pitched into the seventh inning for his third consecutive win.

Davis went 4-for-4 and became the ninth player in Mets history to hit three homers in a game, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Mets from losing for the 14th time in their last 16 games.

Kennedy (9-8) gave up three runs and struck out nine over 6 1/3 innings, and J.J. Putz struck out David Wright with two men on in the ninth for his 19th save.

Arizona won for the seventh time in nine games and climbed within 4 1/2 games of National League West-leading San Francisco.

Aaron Hill put Arizona on the board with an RBI double in the first before Davis answered in the second with his 18th home run.

The Diamondbacks scored twice in the second inning off Chris Young (2-5), who allowed six runs over four innings and remained winless over his last five starts.

After Davis belted his second home run in the fifth, Arizona added three runs in the bottom half on Miguel Montero’s two-run homer and Gerardo Parra’s RBI single.

Davis hit his third home run in the sixth, and the Mets threatened in the eighth before David Hernandez struck out Jason Bay and Kirk Nieuwenhuis with two runners on to end the inning.

Davis singled in the eighth inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Diamondbacks have won 10 of their last 12 home games …Davis’ four hits matched a career high … Bay went 0-for-4 and is hitless in his last 19 at-bats …The Mets have lost eight of their last 10 road games …The Diamondbacks improved to 43-9 when scoring more than five runs.
