Recap
Dodgers 8, Mets 3: Matt Treanor drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single to snap the tie and visiting Los Angeles rallied for five runs in the top of the 12th inning to outlast New York and complete a three-game sweep.
Adam Kennedy doubled in two runs, Andre Ethier and Luis Cruz each added an RBI and Juan Cruz hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who have won four straight to pull within 1 1/2 games of the rival San Francisco Giants in the National League West.
Ramon Ramirez (2-2) allowed a leadoff single to James Loney in the 12th and Tony Gwynn Jr. reached on an infield single that replays showed as a close out. Ramirez got two outs but Ethier was walked intentionally in front of Treanor, who lifted a single to center to plate the go-ahead runs.
Cruz and Kennedy followed with hits to extend the two-out rally.
Rookie Josh Wall (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win in his major-league debut.
With regular closer Kenley Jansen unavailable, Javy Guerra came on for the save for Los Angeles in the ninth. Ruben Tejada led off with a single and David Wright’s infield single put runners on the corners for Ike Davis, who squibbed a slow grounder to first, allowing Tejada to score the tying run.
The Mets began their comeback on a questionable call in the seventh. It looked like the Dodgers were out of the inning with a 3-1 lead when Davis swung and missed at strike three with two outs. But home plate umpire Jim Joyce ruled that Davis had foul-tipped the ball into the ground, handing Davis a second chance.
Replays showed that Davis missed the ball and that catcher A.J. Ellis caught it before it hit the dirt.
Davis made the most of the opportunity with a double down the line in right and came around to score when Daniel Murphy followed by blooping a single into short left field to cut it to 3-2.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mets fell below .500 (47-48) for the first time this season. ... Los Angeles earned a three-game sweep in New York for the first time since 2002. … The Mets designated RHP Miguel Batista for assignment and recalled reliever Elvin Ramirez. … The Dodgers will activate RHP Chad Billingsley (elbow) from the disabled list on Monday for a start in St. Louis. … Murphy went 9-for-11 with five extra-base hits in the series.
