Recap

Cubs 7, Mets 0: Starlin Castro hit a three-run homer and Ryan Dempster tossed five shutout innings as the visiting Cubs won the rubber game of the three-game series.

Dempster (4-3) extended his scoreless inning streak to 27 while giving up four hits with no walks in his first start since June 15, when he landed on the disabled list with right lat tightness.

The Cubs scored four runs in the first against Jonathan Niese (7-4), who gave up seven runs over seven innings. Geovany Soto capped the big inning with a two-run single.

Niese settled down and threw five scoreless innings before Castro hit his seventh home run with two on and two outs in the seventh.

The Mets failed to match their season high at eight games over .500, while the Cubs won for the ninth time in their last 13 games.

David Wright singled in the sixth inning to extend his home hitting streak to 16 games, and he enters the All-Star break with a .351 batting average.
