Recap
Reds 7, Mets 3: Red-hot Brandon Phillips homered for the third straight game and Jay Bruce hit an inside-the-park homer as visiting Cincinnati extended its winning streak to four games.
Bronson Arroyo (3-4) went six-plus solid innings, allowing three runs on four hits, to pick up his first win since May 7 and end the Mets' winning streak at three games.
Wilson Valdez had two hits and three RBIs and Ryan Ludwick add a run-scoring double for the Reds, who have amassed 31 runs during their four consecutive victories.
Scott Hairston belted a two-run homer and Kirk Nieuwenhuis added a solo blast - his third in two days - for New York, which saw left fielder Jason Bay leave with a possible concussion after crashing into the wall while trying to make a catch on Bruce's homer in the second.
Arroyo was cruising with a one-hitter through five innings, but gave up the homer to Nieuwenhuis in the sixth and Hairston's blast in the seventh that cut the lead to 6-3 and ended his night.
Mets starter Dillon Gee (4-5) lost his second straight start, giving up four runs - three earned - on five hits in six innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillips is 11-for-22 with three homers and nine RBIs in his last five games. ... Major League Baseball denied an appeal by the Mets of a scoring decision that would have given RHP R.A. Dickey a no-hitter. Dickey allowed one hit against Tampa Bay on Wednesday, an infield bouncer in the first inning that 3B David Wright was unable to grab bare-handed. ... Reds 3B Scott Rolen went 1-for -3 in the first of two scheduled rehab games at Triple-A Louisville on Friday night. He has been out since May 12 with a strained shoulder. ... Valdez made his first start in center field Friday. Valdez was needed because Chris Heisey left Thursday's game with a mild groin strain and Drew Stubbs is on the 15-day DL.
