Recap

Nationals 5, Mets 3: Adam LaRoche hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs and Edwin Jackson pitched seven solid innings to earn his first victory since April 14 for host Washington.

Michael Morse went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Nationals, who have won eight of the last nine meetings with the Mets, including the first two of the series and four of five this season.

Jackson (2-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, walking four and striking out six while giving Washington’s bullpen a much-need rest after manager Davey Johnson used all seven relievers in the Nationals’ 7-6 victory in 12 innings Tuesday.

Sean Burnett pitched a perfect eighth inning and Tyler Clippard worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth for his fifth save in six chances.

LaRoche’s blast came with one out in the first inning off Jeremy Hefner (1-3) after Bryce Harper reached on an error and Ryan Zimmerman walked. Hefner allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits in six innings in his third career start.

Morse’s RBI single to right in the fifth inning made it 4-2 and LaRoche’s sacrifice fly in the seventh put Washington in front 5-3.

The Mets scored on Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ RBI single in the third inning and run-scoring groundouts by Lucas Duda in the fourth and Omar Quintanilla in the seventh.

GAME NOTEBOOK: LaRoche leads the Nationals with 39 RBIs. … Washington scored three runs in Jackson’s previous three outings and has scored 35 runs in his 11 starts. … Jackson has allowed three or less runs in nine outings. … The Mets committed two errors after recording three Tuesday. They have the second-most in the National League with 47, trailing only San Francisco (51).
