Recap

Mets 5, Cardinals 0:
Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey tossed a seven-hit shutout, striking out nine, as host New York won for the eighth time in 11 games.

Dickey (8-1) followed Johan Santana's landmark no-hitter by winning his sixth straight decision. Coming off consecutive double-digit strikeout performances for the first time in his career, Dickey stayed dominant, fanning the side in the eighth and dispatching the Cardinals in 100 pitches.

The Mets registered consecutive complete-game shutouts for the first time since August 2010, when Santana and Dickey accomplished the feat.

St. Louis lost its fourth straight, falling to 1-4 on its seven-game road trip.

Starter Lance Lynn (8-2), who entered tied for the major league lead in wins, allowed two earned runs on five hits. He walked four and threw 105 pitches before being lifted with two outs in the fifth.

The Mets capitalized on shoddy defense to grab a 3-0 second-inning lead.

After New York loaded the bases, Dickey chopped a ball toward Daniel Descalso. The second baseman lost his grip on the ball and could not start the double play. His throw to first was then dropped by Matt Adams. Ike Davis scored, and the Mets plated two more on RBI groundouts.

David Wright hit his sixth homer, a solo shot, in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After one game in center field, St. Louis’ Carlos Beltran moved back to right and Shane Robinson played center. The alignment left Allen Craig on the bench. … Mets RF Lucas Duda, who had three homers and seven RBIs in the previous two games, went 1-for-4 with a walk.
