Recap

Mets 3, Brewers 1: Miguel Batista tossed seven scoreless innings and Daniel Murphy had two hits - including an RBI single in the first - as host New York mustered only three hits but won for the seventh time in nine outings.

Murphy, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games, added a leadoff double in the sixth inning. He gave the Mets a 2-0 lead after scoring on Ronny Cedeno's squeeze bunt.

David Wright led off the ninth with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored after third baseman Aramis Ramirez dropped the ball during a rundown.

Batista (1-1) retired 10 in a row at one point before scattering four hits and striking out five. After Tim Byrdak and Bobby Parnell combined to work the eighth inning, Frank Francisco kept his emotions in check and overcame Corey Hart's RBI single to record his ninth save of the season.

The Mets scratched for a run in the first inning after coupling a pair of walks with Murphy's two-out base hit. Murphy deposited an outside fastball from Yovani Gallardo (2-4) where the shortstop would have been playing had Milwaukee not been executing a pronounced defensive shift. Rookie Kirk Nieuwenhuis scored from second to give the Mets a 1-0 advantage.

Gallardo permitted two runs on as many hits, but saw his pitch count escalate after issuing six walks in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers fell to 4-8 in May. ... Wright extended his hitting streak to eight games with the double in the ninth. ... Gallardo fell to 2-3 in his career versus the Mets. ... Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks pinch hit for Nyjer Morgan in the eighth inning and grounded out to third base. Weeks had sat out the previous two games with a wrist injury.
