Recap

Marlins 3, Nationals 1:
Hanley Ramirez homered and Anibal Sanchez outdueled Edwin Jackson as host Florida set a franchise record for wins in a month.

Sanchez (3-3) held the Nationals to one unearned run on three hits over seven innings, helping the Marlins improve to 20-8 in May. Heath Bell worked around a two-out double in the ninth for his ninth save and second in as many games.

Chris Coghlan scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on Greg Dobbs’ sacrifice fly to left after he singled with one out and advanced to third base on Jackson’s errant pickoff throw.

Jackson (1-3) remains winless since April 19 after giving up two runs (one earned) over 6 1/3 innings.

Washington led 1-0 in the fifth when Corey Brown drove in his first career run on a suicide squeeze that scored Ian Desmond.

Giancarlo Stanton answered in the sixth when his double scored Omar Infante, giving him 28 RBIs in May.

The Nationals loaded the bases in the eighth with one out, but Steve Cishek struck out Bryce Harper before getting Ryan Zimmerman to hit an inning-ending groundout to third base.

The Marlins added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on Ramirez’s eighth home run, a shot to left off Craig Stammen.
