Recap
Brewers 5, Braves 0: Marco Estrada outdueled Tim Hudson and Aramis Ramirez hit his 23rd homer as host Milwaukee climbed back to .500 for the first time since April 24.
Rickie Weeks added a solo home run and Jean Segura drove in a run and scored one for the Brewers, who have won 17 of their last 22 games and pulled within four games of the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild card spot.
Hudson (14-5) was charged with four runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings while walking one and striking out four. The veteran right-hander lost for just the second time in his last 13 starts for Atlanta, which dropped 7 1/2 games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East but maintained a 5 1/2-game lead over the Cardinals in the wild card race.
Estrada (3-6) surrendered only four hits and walked one while striking out six in 6 2/3 innings. The 29-year-old has allowed one or no earned runs in four of his last five starts.
Weeks got it started for the Milwaukee offense in the first, taking an 0-1 sinker out to center for his 18th blast.
Hudson held it at a 1-0 deficit until the seventh when the Brewers rallied for three runs. Milwaukee loaded the bases with one out on a pair of singles and a hit-by-pitch before Segura’s groundout pushed home Ramirez. Taylor Green followed with an RBI single and Norichika Aoki doubled to score Segura and end Hudson’s night.
Ramirez’s solo blast in the eighth capped the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brewers 1B Corey Hart (foot) missed his second straight game. He will be fitted for a custom foot support on Wednesday. … The Braves sat slumping 1B Freddie Freeman and started Lyle Overbay. Freeman is batting .205 over his last 35 games. … Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun went 0-for-4 and has been held hitless in three straight games.
