Recap
Braves 6, Marlins 1: Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman each drove in a pair of runs as Atlanta wrapped up a four-game series with its third victory over Miami.
Jones doubled home two runs in a three-run first and Freeman’s two-run double was the big blow in a three-run second as Atlanta built an early 6-0 advantage against Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi.
The Braves won for the 18th time in their past 24 games, improving to 6-1 on their current 10-game homestand and remaining 2 1/2 games behind Washington in the National League East.
Miami shortstop Jose Reyes extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a sixth-inning triple to left. Reyes, whose hitting streak ties his career high, finished 1-for-4.
Eovaldi (2-7) allowed five hits in the first as Atlanta sent nine men to the plate. Jones doubled to left-center, scoring Reed Johnson and Jason Heyward. Dan Uggla followed with a single to left, plating Jones and giving the Braves a 3-0 lead.
Heyward brought home Michael Bourn with a single to left in the second. Freeman’s double to deep right scored Johnson and Heyward, pushing Atlanta’s lead to 6-0. Heyward finished with three hits.
Eovaldi allowed eight hits and six runs in two innings.
Atlanta starter Mike Minor pitched well in 3 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with one strikeout. A rain delay ended the night for Minor, who went 2-1 with a 1.98 ERA in July.
Reliever Christian Martinez (5-2) earned the victory, allowing one run on four hits in three innings.
