Mets 6, Blue Jays 5
: David Wright returned to the lineup and pushed his league-leading average to .412 with two hits and two RBIs as visiting New York avoided a sweep at Toronto.

Mike Baxter had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis added an RBI for the Mets.

Dillon Gee (3-3) worked 6 2/3 solid frames to earn the win, allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out six.

Wright, who has been battling illness all weekend and had Saturday off, followed a leadoff walk and a double in the first with a sharp grounder up the middle that plated a pair. Wright singled and scored in the fifth and made a bare-handed play on a slow grounder in the seventh.

Nieuwenhuis’ RBI double capped the three-run first inning and New York piled on with Baxter’s RBI triple in the second off Blue Jays starter Henderson Alvarez (3-4).

Toronto got single runs back in the second and third but the Mets rallied for two more in the fifth.

The Blue Jays made it interesting with a pair of runs off Bobby Parnell in the eighth but Tim Byrdak came on to record the final out of the inning. Frank Francisco allowed the first two to reach in the ninth but struck out the next three to record his 10th save.

: Alvarez was charged with six runs in five innings, marking his shortest outing of the season and only the second time that the 22-year old has yielded more than three earned runs. … Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista had three hits and a pair of RBIs in defeat. ... The Mets placed right-hander Miguel Batista (back) on the disabled list and recalled right-hander Chris Schwinden from Triple-A. … Reports surfaced on Sunday that the Blue Jays had placed 1B Adam Lind on outright waivers. The team declined comment on the confidential process.
