Rays 4, Mariners 1:
B.J. Upton launched a two-run upper-deck homer and Alex Cobb hurled seven strong innings as visiting Tampa Bay won its season-high seventh straight game.

Desmond Jennings and Ben Zobrist also hit home runs in a four-run third inning as the Rays remained five games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East and first in the AL wild card race.

Cobb (7-8) allowed one run and four hits while winning his third straight start. He struck out five and walked two and has allowed just one run in each of the three consecutive victories.

Joel Peralta struck out the side in the eighth and Fernando Rodney struck out two in the ninth for his 37th save in 38 opportunities to help end Seattle’s seven-game home winning streak.

Jennings singled home the first run in the third and Upton followed by unloading on an offering from Seattle starter Blake Beavan (7-7) and placing it in the top deck just inside the left-field foul pole to give the Rays a 3-0 edge. Zobrist, who had three hits, doubled home a run later in the inning.

Seattle struck in the fifth against Cobb when Trayvon Robinson tripled to deep left-center field and scored on a single to right by Eric Thames.

Beavan allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings and saw his four-game winning streak halted.
