White Sox 7, Rays 2: Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo each knocked in two runs and Philip Humber won for the first time since his perfect game more than a month ago as visiting Chicago extended its winning streak to seven.
The White Sox strung five straight hits together to score five in the sixth inning. A.J. Pierzynski, Viciedo (three hits) and Orlando Hudson had RBI singles, while Ramirez stroked an RBI double. The final run came home on an Alejandro De Aza fielder’s choice for a 6-2 lead.
Humber (2-2) allowed five hits, one walk, two runs and struck out five over seven innings. He was 0-2 in six starts since his perfect game against Seattle on April 21.
Left fielder Hideki Matsui, recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Durham, belted a two-run homer in his Rays debut in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead.
Ramirez had an RBI single in the fifth and Viciedo hammered his 11th homer, a solo blast, in the eighth as the White Sox won for the 11th time in 12 games.
Tampa Bay starter James Shields (6-3) threw 27 pitches in the fifth inning and 25 in the sixth. He allowed 10 hits and six runs – five earned – in six innings on 96 pitches.
GAME NOTEBOOK: White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko went 0-for-4, ending his 14-game hitting streak and dropping his average to .386. … The last time the White Sox won seven straight was Aug. 30-Sept. 6, 2010. … It was the first time Shields threw less than 100 pitches since July 27, 2011, snapping a 21-game streak. … The White Sox are 16-9 on the road. … The Rays have lost three of four.
