Recap

Tigers 6, Yankees 5: Miguel Cabrera homered for the third straight game and drove in three runs to lift host Detroit to its sixth consecutive victory.

Cabrera also had a two-run double to back 6 2/3 solid innings from Rick Porcello as the Tigers won their 10th straight at home and improved to 16-1 at Comerica Park since July 4.

Andy Dirks added three hits and a pair of two-out RBIs as Detroit sent the American League East-leading Yankees to their 12th loss in 18 games.

Porcello (9-6) yielded three runs on eight hits to improve to 3-0 in his last four starts vs. New York at Comerica Park. Closer Jose Valverde allowed two runs in the ninth on RBI hits by Ichiro Suzuki and Russell Martin before retiring Curtis Granderson for his 22nd save.

Yankees starter Phil Hughes (11-9) labored through 4 1/3 innings, throwing 102 pitches and giving up four runs on eight hits.

Eric Chavez hit his 11th homer - a two-run shot in the fourth - and Ichiro had two hits and two RBIs for New York, which has lost seven of its last nine on the road.

Cabrera's two-run double in the fifth snapped a 2-2 tie and ended Hughes' night. Cabrera is 9-for-20 with four homers and nine RBIs against Hughes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hughes has allowed 26 homers, eclipsing his previous career high set in 2010. ... Cabrera's homer was his 29th overall and 19th at Comerica Park, tying the franchise mark he set at home in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He has 95 RBIs, the most through 110 games for a Detroit player in that span since Rocky Colavito had 98 in 1961 ... Yankees SS Derek Jeter's fourth-inning hit was the 2,405 single of his career, moving him past Rod Carew into sixth place on the all-time list. It was also his first hit in 13 regular-season at-bats vs. Porcello. ... Chavez matched last season's RBI total of 26 with the first homer Porcello has surrendered in 60 innings. ... Detroit went over the two-million mark in attendance for the eighth consecutive year.
