Recap

Yankees 6, Mariners 2
: Raul Ibanez homered for the second straight game and Phil Hughes tossed 7 2/3 solid innings as New York handed Seattle its eighth consecutive road loss.

Ibanez and Russell Martin ripped two-out RBI doubles in the second inning to give the hosts an early advantage. Jayson Nix followed and deposited an offering from former Yankee Hector Noesi (2-4) into the first row in right field to cap the four-run uprising.

Ibanez provided insurance by blasting a 3-2 fastball from Noesi into Monument Park in center field. The former Mariner, who had a three-run blast in Friday's 6-2 win, has four homers in as many games and seven on the season.

Derek Jeter tied Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn for 17th place on Major League Baseball's all-time hits list when he singled to lead off the eighth inning. Jeter has 3,141 hits in his career.

The offensive outburst was more than enough for Hughes (3-4), who recorded his longest outing of the season. Hughes, whose only blemish was Mike Carp's solo homer in the seventh, allowed six hits and struck out four.

The second inning proved to be the undoing for Noesi, who fared well the rest of the way. He exited after seven innings, allowing five runs on six hits.

Carp nearly hit his second homer of the game in the ninth inning, but the umpires ruled that the ball hit the top of the wall in right field. Carp was credited with an RBI double.
